Of all the great Pio Leiva recordings I have, this is my favorite.
Pio sings a great 'Cotunto' on this.

Same as "Bajo Un Palmar"
Reissued as "Soneros Cubanos" on CD in the 1990's,
but they recorded it "directly from the vinyl" LP.

A 2 CD digipak.

The music label 'Tumbao' based in Spain is well known for it's
effort for over more than 15 years, for aquiring, remastering,
reissuing and therefore preserving many varied forms of
secular and non secular Cuban music, as well as the many
historically important artists/musicians/bands/orchestras.

The "Tumbao Cuban Classics" series with consistently
creative and artistic graphic design work has provided
music to listeners who may otherwise would never have
had a chance to hear classic Cuban music, unless they had
been collecting it for years or knew someone who had it.

We must of course acknowledge 'René Lopéz Sr.' and
'Andy Kaufman' for being among the first to reissue "Cuban Classics originally from 78rpm's onto vinyl LP's in the mid 1970's on the 'Cariño' and 'Cubitas' record labels respectively.

Many people I know have heard and have some of these 50 recordings, but many more have no idea that these recordings exist.
Tumbao took their time in searching for and compiling the materiel on these two CD's titled "50 Aniversario Del Triunfo de La Revolucion".

Whether listeners relate to the "ideology" presented is up to
the listener, but without a doubt... the musicians, bands, orquestas that are playing the music on these 50 recordings are superb.

An excellent project organized by both Enrique Jorrin and Odilio Urfe, with arrangements by both of them.

Several featuring the masterful and highly stylistic trumpet playing of Oscar "Florecita" Velasco O'Farrill .
I used Goldwave V.5 to "trim" the beginnings and ends of each track and also slightly clean the surface sound.

Featuring singers: Merceditas Valdes, Pio Leiva, Omara Portuondo and Pacho Alonso all of their voices in 1960 and 1961 were in their prime.
Alfredo Zayas and his Coro Folklórico, his drummers and trumpet section are superb.
All songs using post 1959 revolutionary themes.
(education, agrarian reform, liberty etc.)

Conjunto Caney - Cuba

Two CD's by Conjunto Caney.

Caney plays in the classic (tipico) "Conjunto" format, that of
Sonora Matancera, with the harmonic use of four trumpets,
timbalitos (not pailas) one tumbadora and tight crisp coros.
It's this "tipical conjunto" sound that was responsible for
forming bandleader Johnny Pachceco's early musical style.
