Juan Pablo Torres:
trombone

Born in Puerto Padre, Cuba 1946.

Died: Apr 17, 2005 in Miami, Florida of an inoperable brain tumor at age 58.
Five LPs recorded in Cuba.

In the late 1990's I played Bongoes & Chekere in the New York City band "Los Jovenes Del Barrio", we recorded a segment for a T.V. show called
BET on Jazz, Juan Pablo Torres played with us for that show and a few other gigs.
He was not only a Trombone master & arranger, he was a really great person.

Video-N.Y.C. - Los Jóvenes Del Barrio - T.V. show

In 1998 I played Bongoes, Güiro and Chekeré with the N.Y.C. group "Los Jóvenes Del Barrio".
I left the band after several months because I would not tolerate the band leaders ridiculous behavior.

Four musicians in these two videos are no longer alive:
Pianist 'Kimson Plaut' died in Puerto Rico in 2001.
Cuban Trombone player 'Juan Pablo Torres' died in 2005.
Bass player 'Victor Venegas' died in 2006.
'Jillian Omsberry' vocalist, died after a long fight with cancer, Jan. 2009.

Big R - 1975
(Produced by Juan Pablo Torres)

This is a mix I made from the two LP's 1975 & 1976.
I call it:
"The Riverside Funketeo Mix"

Seven songs from the 1975 LP and five songs from the 1976 LP.
This is from my favorite period... the 1970's.
The band during this time had a drummer (drum set/traps) who laid down some of the most awesome '70s "Onda Nueva Areito funk" drumming you'll hear, other than Blás Egües and Changüito.
The band also had an electric bass player who was also a killer "Cuban Funketeo" player.
The electric keyboards were most likely from/made in eastern bloc countries and they sound great.
(1970's - 85 percent of Cuban trade was with the USSR or Eastern Bloc countries, including musical instruments)

El Maestro 'Tito Gomez' who was the bands early original lead singer only sings on *two songs on the 1975 LP.

All ripped @ 320 from the original vinyl LP's and "painstakingly" cleaned & trimmed with 'Goldwave V.5'
