Art: Mad Magazine cover 1963

Everyone knows that in 1963 the CIA had a plan
to give Fidel an exploding cigar, which hopefully
would assassinate him.. obviously it never happened.

Photo: Conjunto Zombie 1950's - Cuba

"Conjunto Zombie"
Photo: 1954 Cortina studio en la
ciudad de Holguin, Oriente de Cuba
(Info. por Sr. Algel Zamora y su hijo Jorge)

Integrantes/musicos left to right, top:
Osvaldo Muñoz, second trumpet, Angel Reed, singer,
Algel Zamora, (father), singer and director, Armando Fernandez, singer, Jose Gutierrez, tumbadoras,
bottom:, Dr. René Oliva, Third Trumpet, Tomas Martinez Puebla, Pianist, Pedro Balmaceda, Double bass,
Armando Zulbarán, first trumpet, Emilio Zotolongo, Bongocero.

I believe this was the house band
for 'El Club Zombie' in La Habana.
'Club Zombie' was an open air restaurant/cabaret
that had dinner/dancing and an "exotic" floor show.
It was located on 256 Zulueta St.
in Havana, near Parque Central.

It catered to Americans but also was frequented by Cubans.

LP cover art: Humberto Cané "Yeyo y Cané" RCA Victor 1955

"Yeyo y Cané"
Humberto Cané
10" inch vinyl LP RCA Victor Mexico 1955
Humberto Cané:
born, Matanzas, Cuba 1918.
died age 82, Los Angeles, Calif. 2000.

Multi-instrumentalist and band leader Humberto Cané organized one of the most highly regarded bands in the musical history of Mexico, specifically in the genres of Mambo and Cha Cha. In 1947 Cane's group backed Benny More in the recording of a now famous 10-inch LP at the outset of the popularization of Cha-Cha-Chá and Mambo. Previously recording with Conjunto Matamoros, it is thought that his collaborations with 'El Barbaro del Ritmo' had helped spawn his particular soneo style.
Humberto Cané was the son of Valentin Cané, the founder of the group Sonora Matancera.

I was fortunate to be a member of the band
of legendary "Master New Orleans drummer"
the late 'James Black'. (R.I.P.)

New York, 1947

Vinyl LP cover art by  David Stone Martin

78' rpm cover of "Cult Music Of Cuba" in 1948-'49
Artist: David Stone Martin

This is the "original cover" art on the front of the album folder that contained the four 78rpm records of 'Harold Courlander's' field recording's titled "Cult Music Of Cuba" from 1948-'49.
The "original" cover art was done by 'David Stone Martin', who was the artist that did dozen's of covers for many of the classic Be-Bop and jazz 10' inch album cover's and 12' inch LP covers during the 1940's and 1950's. Including Machito and Chico O'Farril's 10' inch cover and Dizzy Gillespie's 10' inch cover.
All four 78's were later released/reissued as one 33rpm LP on the "Ethnic Folkways" label (With both pink & blue cover).

A few photos included with four pages accompanying the original 78's
