Tribute to Rafael Somavilla:
Born: Matanzas, Cuba 1928
Died: Havana, Cuba January 20, 1980.
Prolific Pianist, arranger, composer and conductor.
He was one of the founding directors of the Cuban Modern Music Orchestra in Havana in1967.Using conventional Cuban musical elements, he incorporated newer sounds into Cuban popular music during the 60's 70's.
Author of many musical works,
including "Requiem".
An important figure in contemporary Cuban music during the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's.
involved in studio recordings, radio and television.
