Hey, GREAT blog! I'm working on a dissertation on charanga and I think I saw a photo on your blog of someone playing the pailas criollas. Do you remember/have that photo and if so, do you know the source? I can't seem to find a decent photo of pailas anywhere!

Sunni, there will be a post here soon with a great recording by Generoso "Tojo" Jimenez called Danzónes, 13 songs all using the real "pailas criollas".

You can see a pailas played in the 8th video down here: ("La Botijuela"
Septeto De Santiago)

However the Generoso Jimenez CD is a very clear studio recording and the use of Las "pailas criollas" is superb.

Awesome! I will look forward to the recording of danzones. The video of "La Botijuela' is also spectacular! If you run across any stills of pailas, could you let me know? I'd like to also use them in my dissertation. And, as I continue to comb through your blog, I see other things that I might like to also include in my dissertation. Would you be willing to share some of your information if, of course, I credit you and the original source? I'd also like to get more info on the charangas of the late-nineteenth, early-twentieth centuries. Do you know off the top of your head if you have info on them? I'd be great to open a dialogue with you. Thanks, Mark! Cheers!
