What started as every other Tuesday night, is now an every Tuesday night gig here in Manhattan up in "El Barrio" at 'Camaradas' bar/restaurant with "Caja Dura"- Rumba de Cajones. With Max Valdez, Barry Cox and "Papote" Jimenez vocals, Cajones: Nicky Laboy, 'Pete Jr., Abidoaye Holliday and Jose "Apache" Rivera (one of the best cajon makers in N.Y.C.) .

Of all the Chekeré's my father made in his lifetime... this shape was his favorite, which was influenced by the Chekeré in the 'Pierre Verger' photos above.
He made this one for himself and it was the only one he liked to play. He called it "The Pickle".

The day before he left, we hung out at my place, played Chekeré, drummed, listened to music and had fun. A great person and great musician.
